I think the AS500 is fine. Expensive, but worth every penny. really, there arent any horns made in the US anymore. Title and Post If the new horn helps your motivation, then that's a good thing, too. I still play on my 1977 Selmer Paris Mark VII. I so wish I had that old horn back! The only emotional hurdle I would face in buying an AS500 is the fact it's made in Taiwan. This advice makes sense, because there is a lot of junk out there, and both this and the Yamaha are decent horns. Any information or advice would be appreciated! I also like the Selmer 280 "La Voix II" ($2475). I can't wait to know how to play the Pink Panther! or changes, or grammatical inaccuracies in any product included on the Website. If you want an alto between the AS 42 and the Reference models, you can look at Paul Muriat models and Yanigasawa. He wouldn't give us the price on the tag.There's another place in Doylestown my mom said we could try. I'd have maybe taken that $1000 and found a really nice Conn 6M. Not from a quality standpoint, necessarily, but one of perhaps blind principle. Nothing at all serious. So used is as good as new, if the horn is not damaged. Vandoren V-12 reeds are my recommended reeds (#3 until you build up your musculature). If I had to pick just from close examination - without playing I would probably choose the AS700 - its fully ribbed with metal thumbrests.
